The best treadmills for running and walking

1. ASUNA 8730/8730G. The best treadmill for walking

Pros

  • About 71% give it a 5-star rating and around 15%, a 4-star rating, meaning that approximately 86% of buyers rate it a 4 or better.
  • Buyers like this treadmill because it is high-quality and sturdy.
  • They also like it because of its sleek design and because it can be folded flat underneath a bed or couch.
  • Some are also happy with the treadmill because its wheels facilitate moving it.
  • Buyers feel it is easy to set it up as it comes almost completely assembled.
  • Some think the treadmill is easy to use and a few mention it is quiet.
  • This treadmill is more suited for walking and slow jogging due to its max speed of 8 MPH.
  • Less expensive than other treadmills on this list.

Great product! I canceled my gym membership the same day it arrived.

I live in Michigan and work full time and getting out to the gym during the winter months at 5 AM has become impossible.

I also live in a #TinyHome renovation – so a traditional treadmill was never an option.

This is easily stored underneath my bed and I can easily get up and run a few miles before work! Solid purchase!

Cons

  • About 9% of buyers give it a 1-star rating and around 5%, a 2-star rating, meaning that 12% rate it a 2 or worse.
  • Buyers express the shipped treadmill is heavy (108 lb. according to the manufacturer) and needed help moving the shipped box.
  • For a few, moving the 95-lb. assembled treadmill can be difficult even with the wheels, especially for smaller people.
  • A few buyers mention the treadmill stopped working after days or months of using it (in one case, replacing the fuse solved the problem).
  • The treadmill is not suited for running due to its max speed of 8 MPH, 1.25 continuous horsepower (CPH), 49in belt length. It also does not have incline levels.
  • A few buyers expressed that the belt can skip when reaching speeds of 6+ MPH.
  • The max user weight is 220 lb., which is less than other treadmills on this list.

[My wife] used it consistently for about a month for maybe a total of 50 hours and the motor bearing is already squeaking/squealing when walking.

She has never even jogged on it as she just likes a light walking pace.

For the nearly $700 we paid for this thing I expected it to last at least a year.

Now it may still function for about a year, but that’s if we can stand the squealing noise it’s making and I’m sure it will get worse since it clearly sounds like a bearing and they only ever get noisier once they start.

2. Bowflex BXT 116/216. The best treadmill for running

Average buyer rating: 4.4/5 (based on 210+ reviews)

Bowflex BTX216. Click HERE for pictures and product specs.

Pros

  • About 71% give it a 5-star rating and around 16%, a 4-star rating, meaning that approximately 87% of buyers rate it a 4 or better.
  • Buyers like the two versions of the treadmill because it is sturdy and smooth. The BXT116 treadmill has a continuous horsepower (CHP) of 3.75 and the BTX216, of 4.0, and both have a maximum speed of 12mph, that allows for walking, jogging, and running.
  • Although some parts need two people to be assembled and the base is very heavy to move by yourself, many mention the assembly is easy since the assembly instructions are easy to follow.
  • According to the manufacturer, the maximum user weight is 375 pounds for the BTX 116 and 400 pounds for the BTX216.
  • A minimum of 55″ in belt length is recommended for running (and 60″ for runners over 6′ tall) and both versions of the treadmill have a belt length of 60”.
  • A couple positively comment on the thicker 3-ply, 2.75mm thick belt, since it makes the belt more durable.
  • A few like the many slots available to put their things in and many mention it is a great treadmill for its price.
  • Others also mention the treadmill is quiet and that the fan is unexpectedly good.
  • The treadmill’s incline level is up to 15%, which is motorized, meaning that you won’t have to manually make the adjustment.

It runs so smooth! It’s probably the best decision in a purchase I’ve ever made. It has a fan with different speeds, several slots for water bottles to fill.

You can create and save workouts if you don’t want to use the programmed workouts.

It tracks your improvements and gives you feedback depending on the user you log in with, logging in is literally a press of a button, you can save multiple users.

I love running and I usually run for an hour mon-weds-fri and haven’t had any problems with it. It’s sturdy.

If you’re new at running, or a jogger, or walker they have workouts in the books for beginners to get you in better shape. they even give you diet tips and stretching movements.

I’m pretty much in love with this machine. Yea. It’s pricey but you get what you pay for.

In my opinion, it’s a good investment because I use it three times a week without problems and I don’t have to share it with other people.

I’m getting the goodness out of what my money’s worth.

Cons

  • About 9% give it a 1-star rating and around 1%, a 2-star rating, meaning that approximately 10% of buyers rate it a 2 or worse.
  • Some buyers rate it poorly because the machine didn’t work from the beginning or because it stopped working after weeks or months of use.
  • A few also mention that there were cases where the treadmill abruptly and mistakenly increased/decreased the speed.
  • Some express that the assembly can be difficult and the treadmill is pricier than the other treadmills on this list.
  • Some mention that the speed transition is slower than ideal which can be frustrating for exercises that require quick speed transitions.
  • The shipped box is quite heavy (according to the manufacturer, 341 pounds) so buyers recommend the box be delivered as close as possible to where it will be used.
  • A few, especially heavier users, comment that the treadmill shakes or creaks when using it.
  • A few complain that the Bluetooth feature is limited since Bluetooth only syncs to stats, Bluetooth is locked out unless you buy a monthly subscription, or you cannot listen to music through it unless you use a headphone jack.
  • A few criticize that they have received a “button stuck” error or that the machine doesn’t have a zero angle (it starts at 1).

I don’t understand why its creaking and turns itself off suddenly like its been unplugged only it hasn’t.

Its a little too expensive to be having issues this soon after purchase. It’s only been a month.

3. NordicTrack T Series. Great treadmill for running

Average buyer rating: 4.4/5 (based on 29300+ reviews)

NordicTrack T series. Click HERE for pictures and product specs.

Pros

  • About 72% give it a 5-star rating and around 15%, a 4-star rating, meaning that 87% of buyers rate it a 4 or better.
  • Buyers like this treadmill because it is high-quality and sturdy. A few like the thicker 2-ply, 2.0mm thick belt, which makes the belt more durable.
  • Some heavier runners (250/260 lb.) say the treadmill work just fine even with their weight (according to the manufacturer, the maximum user weight is 300 pounds).
  • The treadmill’s continuous horsepower (CHP) of 3.0 and maximum speed of 10mph allow for walking, jogging, and running.
  • A minimum of 55″ in belt length is recommended for runners and 60″ for runners over 6′ tall, and this treadmill’s belt length is 55”.
  • Others also mention the treadmill is quiet.
  • The treadmill’s incline level is up to 10%, which is motorized, meaning that you won’t have to manually make the adjustment.
  • You don’t need an iFit subscription to use it. To get around this, hold down the iFit logo on the treadmill for 30 seconds and your treadmill will work.

I’ve been using the treadmill about 5 times a week or so since I bought it a couple of months ago, so I thought I would update on how it’s holding up (if that is useful).

Overall, still sturdy and comfortable. Still very kind to my knees and ankles, which is important to me. No issues with shaking or squeaking.

Cons

  • About 7% give it a 1-star rating and around 2%, a 2-star rating, meaning that 9% of buyers rate it a 2 or worse.
  • Buyers express the treadmill’s shipped box is heavy (200 lb. according to the manufacturer) and large, and needed help moving the box.
  • Some rated the treadmill poorly since it didn’t work after installing it or since it stopped working after some weeks/months.
  • Although a few feel the assembly was easy (about 1.5 hours), others think it was difficult to assemble it and required help.

I’m an engineer and used to work for NASA and putting this together was insane.

INSANE! It has about 19 types and sizes of screws washers and whatnot. It feels like the engineers were trying to prank each other by making every connection unique and unlike anything else.

1 additional and great treadmill

In case you would like to check out other options, here is another treadmill that also has a great average score.
