The 3 best running shoes of 2020 according to thousands of runners

After 9 hours of research, analyzing written opinions and ratings of buyers on different websites, such as Amazon USA/UK, running websites, I list the top running shoes for women and men based on the perception of a lot of runners.

Best running shoes
When I say the best running shoes, I really mean the best running shoes.

When I say the best running shoes, I really mean the best running shoes.

Shoes with good scores were not included in this list due to their lower scores (although overall good scores). You can see these 8 shoes at the end of the article.

This article gives you a simple analysis, but with the most important things you have to know about the 3 best shoes for men and women of 2020.

Each model has its positive/negative aspects and average rating based on the opinion of the runners.

Pros

  • Almost all runners think that these adidas Ultraboost 19 shoes are quite comfortable and they like the fit. Some compare them to running on clouds.
  • Several mention that they have already bought or will buy another pair of this model.
  • Some feel that these running shoes offer plenty of support and that the toe box has enough room.
  • Having tried several models of shoes, some say these are the best shoes they have ever worn.

One of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.

My feet are wide and most shoes feel too narrow, but these stretch to comfort even on the first day out.

They are so soft and bouncy, it is unreal. Unlike any other shoe I have ever worn.

I liked the white-out pair so much, I bought the black with blue accent pair as well.

Cons

  • A minority of runners say these shoes can hurt your feet, especially at the beginning.
  • A few are not satisfied with the durability of the sneakers since after little use (in some cases, weeks of use) they have already started to see significant wear (sole or toe section).
  • Some runners think that the fit is not correct. In some cases, it is better to buy a larger fit and in others, a smaller one (see below the fit chart).
  • A few runners say the insoles keep sliding backward, which they find very annoying.

I received these as a gift from my parents and absolutely loved these shoes walking around, super comfortable and they look good.

However, I started training in them and they TORE wide as Dallas on the bottom. Other than that really good shoes.

Pros

  • Many runners like the comfort of these shoes and also on their lightness.
  • Others mention that the shoes allow the feet to “breathe” and that they have already bought or will buy another pair of this model.
  • Some are happy with the shoes because they eliminated the pain felt with other shoes.
  • Some point out that the shoes are good for neutral runners and also that the shoes are durable.
  • Less expensive than other models of the list.

Most comfortable shoes I have purchased in a while. I’m very happy with my purchase.

I ran a 10-mile race without breaking them in and I didn’t have problems. Very, very comfortable.

Cons

  • A small percentage of runners are not satisfied with the fit of the shoes because the fit is a bit too big or too big (see fit chart below).
  • A few are not satisfied with the excess cushioning of the shoes.
  • A couple mention that the shoes don’t offer much grip on wet floors.

I’ve run in Saucony shoes for the past 5-6 years and I’ve always worn a size 10 Men, regardless of the style… Except for this shoe where after I apparently fit into a size 9.

It was only after wearing this shoe for over a month, getting injured, did I finally realized that the roomy toe box wasn’t because it’s designed that way, and that my foot was feeling sore not because of the break-in period, it was because the shoe was literally too big…

So if you’re looking to buy this shoe without trying on in-store first, I would recommend getting a 1/2 size down from the size you usually wear and go from there

Pros

  • The vast majority of runners are quite satisfied with the comfort of these shoes.
  • Many think that the shoes are light and fit well.
  • Some mention that pain (i.e., feet or knees) has decreased when wearing these shoes.
  • Others mention that they have already bought or will buy another pair of this model.

In the past, I’ve worn Nike and then switched to Asics. Recently my Cumulus 19’s didn’t seem to stop the pain I would eventually get after running in them for a few months.

I read a ton of reviews and these Brooks had the best ratings. I decided to try them and although it’s only been just over a week, I love them.

They are so light and comfortable and make running seem easier than usual! I run about 3-4 times a week, totaling 20 miles – I just want to provide an idea of how the shoe is used.

I’ve always had issues with shoes not providing enough support but these seem perfect. If my experience changes, I will add to this review. Otherwise – I love these!

Cons

  • A minority of runners are not satisfied with the durability of the shoes because after a little use the mesh or sole wore out significantly.
  • For some, the shoes cause pain or blisters.
  • Some runners think that the purchased fit is not correct. In some cases, it is better to buy a larger size and in others a smaller size (see fit chart below).
  • A few are not satisfied with the size of the toe box because it seems a bit large.

I have ordered the Ghost shoe for years and this is the first style that kills my feet.

I do not like the toe design at all. There is not enough support and my toes dig into the mesh part. The front of my foot slips around a lot too.

I am so sad I don’t like this style. I loved the Ghost 10 shoe. I ordered two pair because I loved them so much. I am sending the Ghost 11 back.

How to buy the best running shoes for you

Weight
You have to get on the scale and not fool yourself. The shoes have recommended weight ranges based on cushioning and stability.

If you weigh 143 lb/65 kg you can (and should) wear lighter shoes with less cushioning, but if you weigh 198lb/90 kg you will need more cushioning and you will have to resort to more expensive shoes.

Just because a shoe is more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better, just that it has more materials and technologies.

Foot arch
It is very important to know what type of arch you have. Finding it out is easy, getting the sole of the foot wet and leaving a mark on paper. Of course, the best way is a podiatric study.

This simple test narrows down the models you can use, since a person with a low arch (or flat feet) should not buy shoes with a high arch, and a person with a high arch should not wear shoes with a low arch.

Size
Here is a quick trick: leave the width of a finger between the longest finger and the toe of the shoe. The end.

That does not necessarily mean choosing one more number, sometimes half a number will suffice.

Running gait
Knowing if you are a pronator, neutral or supinator is important, but not decisive. Pronation is the turning of the ankle into the foot during the tread.

running gait. running shoes buying guide

Pronation is not necessarily bad, as it is a natural mechanism of the foot to cushion the body, but sometimes excessive pronation causes discomfort, and correction is necessary.

In that case, you have to resort to insoles or to look for sneakers for pronators. 60% of runners pronate to a lesser or greater extent and sometimes it appears when we are tired and we begin to neglect the technique.

If you are a pronator but you have been using neutral shoes for a while and they have not caused you discomfort, it is best to continue with this type of shoe.

Being supinator (having the ankle turn outwards in the tread) is rare and yet people keep asking about supinator slippers.

Only 4-5% of runners supinate, so there are no specific shoes for supinators. You will have to resort to neutral shoes with high flexibility.

Terrain
If you run on asphalt or cement (on the sidewalk), normally you would use cushioned shoes.

If you are going to run in the park, on the grass, stability is more important and you will also require shoes with a better grip. Cushioning, in this case, is not so important.

If the terrain is going to be stony or rocky, or would be running on trails, you have to resort to trail shoes that provide greater grip, protection, and a lot of stability.
